How To Enjoy Concerts
with Tips By: Chris Barrett
- Save Your Money! Who wants to spend $5 on a
half liter of water? Most venues will allow you to bring one sealed
bottle of water per person. You can always refill this bottle over
and over again. This is especially important if it is an all day
event, you don't want to have to keep buying more water.
- No Empty Stomachs! Concert food is always
pricey and usually will not fill you up. Eat a good meal before hand
so you don't pass out and you don't waste any money!
- Know What's Going On! Go to the website of
the band, venue, or sponsor to obtain the set list. You may not have
to get there for hours if no one you like is playing. This will save
time in traffic and lines.
- Meet Up With Your Friends! Just because your
seats are miles away doesn't mean that you can't hang out. Maps of
every venue can be found online. Print it up and arrange a meeting
place and time.
- Remember the Buddy System? If you are
planning on going in a pit, especially a rough one, try to have
someone watch out for you. This doesn't mean you have to spend the
entire event together, but it's always nice to know someone's got
your back.
- Know When to Go! Don't stand in line for an
hour for the bathroom. If you have to go, leave just as the band is
leaving, not before. There is no need to miss there last song but
you don't have to stand around while they say goodnight. It beats a
line.
- Know Your Limits! When entering a rough pit
be careful! You must know what you can take and what you can't. No
band is worth a trip to the hospital. This doesn't mean you can't
get a little roughed up, but if it is too much, get out! You can
always chill on the lawn or in the back.
- Save Your Spot! If you are entering a pit and
you want to get a good spot up front go to the bathroom and grab a
water bottle before you enter. Nothing is worse than having to give
up a prime location to a dry throat!
- Make A Friend! What better time to meet
someone new then when mashed up against them or sitting next to
them. Don't be afraid to exchange an email address, you might just
make a great friend!
- Don't Be Afraid Of Walking! Parking is
usually a lot cheaper a little farther from the venue, plus it will
be easier to get in and out. Rather than waste a half an hour
driving around just park and walk a few extra feet.
- Fill Up The Time! There is no need to be
bored in between bands. At most concerts there are usually a lot of
fun booths with free stuff and contests. Walk around and explore,
you may go home with more than you expected!
- Less Is More! Most venues won't allow you to
bring a camera, blanket or backpack. There is no reason to lose
anything valuable, just leave it at home! Plus it will take you less
time to get in and save you a lot of hassles.
- Hair Doesn't Matter! Please, Please, Please
girls don't spend hours on your hair. It is only going to be ruined.
Also, don't spray paint it any color to match an artist. Once, at a
No Doubt concert I saw hundreds of pink dyed girls because their
hair paint and run. They weren't happy. What's the point? There is
nothing more practical than a ponytail, it's off your neck and you
can always redo it.
- Dress Appropriately! Do you really want your
boob popping out in front of people you don't know? Do you want
drunken fat people ogling over you butt? It's always fun to put on
an outfit when going out but remember your environment: a concert!
- There Will Always Be More Merchandise! There
is truly no need to buy a tee shirt first thing. Why carry it around
all day? Unless it is a festival or a tour shirt, you can most
likely find it on the internet for less! Check out the bands website
before you go so you have an idea of prices and availability.
- Beer Is Not Your Friend! Too many underage
people have lost their chances at seeing a great band because they
got drunk. Why not remember a great night or risk getting kicked
out? Plus beer is far too expensive. Do you really want to be
throwing up rather than enjoying music? If you really need to get
drunk, you can always do it afterwards or the next day. You spent a
lot of money to get there, why throw
it away.
- Lastly: The Cardinal Rule: Enjoy!
